The first episode, titled "Pilot," introduces viewers to Elena Gilbert (played by Nina Dobrev), a high school student living in the small town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. Elena's life is turned upside down when her boyfriend, Steven Salvatore (played by Paul Wesley), is killed in a car accident. However, things take a supernatural turn when Elena's other friend, Damon Salvatore (also played by Paul Wesley), arrives in town, and Elena finds herself drawn to him.
